Suspicious device found at Portland food pantry

On the Monday morning, January 6, 2014, at 10:38 a.m., the North Precinct officers received a report of a suspicious device on the steps of the Hereford House Food Pantry located at 7600 block of North Hereford Avenue.

Officers responded and briefly examined the suspicious device. Based on their observations, they called for the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit (MEDU) to respond to the scene.

Officers asked some area residents closest to the scene of the device to seek shelter-in-place.

By Monday afternoon, Bomb Techs assigned to MEDU had safely removed the suspicious device and transported it to a safe location for further examination and destruction.
