Oregon Aero honored by Department of Defense

The Oregon Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) announced that it is honoring Oregon Aero with an Above and Beyond Award. The company Oregon Aero was previously recognized with the “Patriot Award” during the 2014 Northwest Military Employer Summit, in Clackamas, Oregon.

The award is to recognize Oregon Aero for their extraordinary support of its employees who serve in the Oregon National Guard and Reserve. Oregon Aero joins thousands of American employers who have reviewed and amended their current human resources policies to ensure compliance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.

Many employers provide ‘above and beyond’ support with pay differential to offset any wage loss, and extension of health care benefits, which complement coverage provided by the military when their employees are mobilized for duty.

According to retired Oregon Army National Guard Brig. Gen. Norman Hoffman, Oregon ESGR State Chair, the ESGR Above and Beyond was created by ESGR to publicly recognize American employers providing extraordinary patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve.

“Supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units,” Hoffman said.

Oregon Aero designs, tests, and manufactures products for both military and civil applications at its facility in Scappoose, Oregon.

“Our Citizen-Soldiers provide an unparalleled workforce that brings dedication, motivation and outstanding leadership abilities to the roles they fill,” said Tony Erickson, chief operating officer for Oregon Aero. “They have skill sets would be beneficial any employer. We’re lucky to have them.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense (DoD) office, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD. ESGR’s mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
