A man is in custody at the Marion County Jail after a series of crimes that took place Monday beginning around 5:30 a.m. William Alva Riley Jr., age 41 was arrested after he crashed a vehicle into a road sign in the 7200 block of Silverton Road NE, near Salem.
Investigators believe Riley was involved in several trespassing incidents, a hit and run crash involving a road sign and area thefts during the early morning hours. In addition to his other activities, Riley is also a person of interest in the house fire at a residence in the 7200 block of Silverton Road NE.
Detectives are asking that anyone who saw Riley in the area or may have been victims of a crime in that area on Sunday night or Monday morning, please contact Detective Nancy Hubbard with Marion County Sheriff’s Office at 503-316-6635.
The victims in the house fire have requested the Sheriff’s Office keep their identity confidential. They are declining any invitation for an interview, and police ask that the media respect their request.
Riley is lodged in the Marion County Jail and is facing charges of Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver, two counts of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, three counts of Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle and Theft III. He is scheduled to appear in court today at 3:00 p.m.
