Shop local and meet over 85 local authors at Oregon Historical Society’s Holiday Cheer

Shop local this holiday season and join the Oregon Historical Society on Sunday, December 6 for Holiday Cheer, a festive book sale and literary celebration. Holiday Cheer begins at noon at the Oregon Historical Society located at 1200 SW Park Avenue, in downtown Portland.

Authors will be signing until 4:00 p.m. Admission is free to both the book sale and to the museum.

A Portland tradition for nearly 50 years, Holiday Cheer is a chance to celebrate the rich literary talents in Oregon, and marks the start of the holiday season at the Oregon Historical Society. Authors are spread throughout the museum, selling everything from cookbooks to children’s books, and of course, history books. All featured authors have published a book in 2015, though many will also have past titles available.

Notable local authors in attendance include mystery writer Phillip Margolin, historical fiction author Kristina McMorris, former Governor Barbara Roberts, and the one and only Gerry Frank. At Holiday Cheer, you will find a book for everyone on your shopping list, with works covering local brews and the best Portland food carts, to guides to hiking the Columbia Gorge and Oregon Coast, to the clever illustrated works like Portlandness: A Cultural Atlas (a Powells.com Pick of the Season)! A full list of featured authors can be found at on our website at http://ohs.org/events/holiday-cheer.cfm.

To add to the holiday cheer, local favorite “The Dickens Carolers” will be strolling through the museum performing lively holiday songs from 1 — 2pm. Sip on a cup of hot cocoa and pick up a cookie as you chat with some of Oregon’s best and brightest writers!
