Reckless driver apprehended in Springfield on multiple charges

On January 10, 2014, at 1:31 a.m., Springfield Police DUII Officer Tom Speldrich witnessed a vehicle driving with no headlights on. The vehicle was being driven recklessly. The driver ran through stop signs, turned it’s lights on then back off, and traveled in the oncoming lane of travel.

Officer Speldrich tried to stop the vehicle for Reckless Driving and suspicion of DUII, but it fled north on 12th St., crashing through a locked gate and into Willamalane Park. The vehicle was abandoned at Modoc and 12th St., but the driver and passenger were both found by assisting patrol officers a short time later, when a K9 tracked them to their location from the vehicle. A shotgun was found in the vehicle.

RC Huglen, 30, of Eugene, was arrested and lodged at Lane County Jail on the following charges: DUII, Reckless Driving/Reckless Endangering/Hit & Run/Attempt to Elude Veh/Attempt to Elude Foot/ Criminal Mischief I/Criminal Trespass II.
